COVID-19 Precautions at Bnai Israel

Covid-19 and its variants continue to be a part of our everyday lives. Fortunately, the availability of vaccines, high quality masks, home tests and antivirals have allowed us to return to a semblance of normalcy.

Last year, the ventilation system at BIC was modified to add fresh air to the circulating air. An electronic filter to trap and destroy a majority of viral particles was installed prior to the 2021 High Holidays.

The Reopening Committee continually monitors the level of Covid infections in New Hanover, Brunswick and Pender Counties. As of September 4th, 2022, the level of Covid-19 in these counties was Low. Should there be a significant and sustained increase in cases, we will reassess our precautions.

At BIC, in-person services, onegs, kiddish lunches and events continue. You also have the option of participating in services (and some events) via Zoom.

What can you do to protect yourself and others in the BIC family?
(Based on August 2022 CDC recommendations)

-Be fully vaccinated and get booster shots if you are eligible.
-If you are not fully vaccinated, we recommend that you wear a high quality, well fitting mask covering the nose and mouth while in the synagogue, except when eating.
- Do not attend services in person if you are ill, especially if you have symptoms of Covid-19 infection.
-If you have underlying medical conditions, discuss with your healthcare provider how best to limit your risk of contracting Covid-19.
-Social distancing is no longer routinely recommended, however, know your risk for severe illness and interact with others accordingly.

Be sure to sign in when you attend services or other events at the synagogue. This allows us to contact you in case of a possible Covid exposure.

Masks and hand sanitizer are available in the foyer.

If you develop Covid after attending services or other event at Bnai Israel, please notify the office so that we can advise others who may have been exposed.

What changes will be made for the High Holidays this year?

-Masks will not be required for all attendees.
-However, if you are not fully vaccinated, we ask that you wear a high quality, well fitting mask.
-Social distancing will not be included when making seat assignments.
-Guests will be allowed at High Holiday services, if arrangements are made in advance with the office.
-All High Holiday services will be streamed, to allow everyone to attend either in person or virtually.

L’Shanah Tovah Tikatevu!

Harris Teeter Together in Education Program (BIC  #4120)

The Harris Teeter Together in Education Program, which sends money quarterly to linked schools and organizations, is starting up again on August 1, 2022. Please make sure you link your VIC card to our Together in Education Account # 4120.

Just ask a Harris Teeter cashier to link your VIC card to Bnai Israel School Account # 4120. All they will need is your last name, your VIC card number and your phone number. There is no cost to you and a great benefit to Bnai Israel every time you use your VIC card.
