As summer unfolds, many of us feel the tension between the quiet rhythm of the season and the urgent, painful realities facing our extended Jewish family—especially in Israel.

The ongoing conflict weighs heavily on our hearts. We watch, worry, and pray for the safety of Israelis and all innocent people affected by violence and war. Each headline, each name, each image brings us closer to the heartbreak—and yet, we are also reminded of our strength. The unity, resilience, and spirit of the Jewish people remain unwavering, even in the face of fear and uncertainty.

Here at home, we carry that strength into our community. Though summer naturally brings a slowdown in activity—fewer programs and meetings—we are using this quieter time to invest in our shared future. Renovations are underway to improve our bathrooms and facilities throughout the synagogue. These changes reflect our values: a space that is safe, accessible, and welcoming for all.

Even amid the calm of summer, we have moments that lift our spirits and draw us together. We will gather together for the Men’s Club Annual Independence Day Cookout on Sunday, July 6th. We are especially looking forward to the upcoming visit of the Israeli Scouts (Tzofim) on Sunday, July 20th. Their energy, joy, and connection to Israel are more important now than ever. When they sing, dance, and share their stories, they remind us of Israel’s beating heart—full of courage, creativity, and hope.

Please also mark your calendar for a special Musical Shabbat on Friday, July 11th, where we will gather for a joyful, song-filled service at Temple of Israel. These moments of prayer, music, and togetherness are not a distraction from what’s happening in the world—they are part of our spiritual response.

Let us continue to support one another, to speak up for peace and justice, and to find strength in our community. As we hold Israel in our thoughts and prayers, we also commit ourselves to building a sanctuary of compassion and connection right here at home.

B’Shalom
