Good Shepherd Homeless Shelter

Once a month B'nai Israel members prepare a meal for approximately 60-80 adults plus children who have sought housing at Good Shepherd Center. Aprons and gloves are provided. Dinner is to be served at 6:00 pm - so we work FAST!
We prepare a main course and sides of vegetables, salad, fruit, bread and desserts. All food is donated, and we must decide how to prepare it. The desserts are already made but need to be cut into portions. Kitchen manager, Jannifer, guides us and answer questions. This is a well-equipped kitchen with pots, pans, utensils, convection ovens, grills and griddles, a large, six- burner range, and warming ovens.
When the food is ready, the clients come to the cafeteria line for trays to be filled. Seconds will be served ONLY after everyone has been through the line once. We are encouraged to then fill our trays and to sit in the dining room at the tables with the clients. This is important and gives everyone a chance to visit a bit.
This is a project close to our hearts, and we want to share it with all our members. Please encourage other B'nai Israel members to take part, so we all can have a chance to help in this effort.

Christmas Day Meal & Gifts 2022
For the past several years, Bnai Israel volunteers have been cooking and serving dinner on Xmas Day. We prepare a special meal with table service instead of the cafeteria line that is the usual. We also provide gifts and treats for both adults and children staying at the center. As we all know, the cost of everything has gone up and in order to provide a terrific meal, good presents, and a special holiday feeling we are asking for your help.
Donations can be made on line by CLICKING HERE and then in the drop down menu under “type” use Good Shepherd Donations or you can send your check to Bnai Israel Congregation indicating to use it for Good Shepherd.
