Summary |
Now that the flurry of activity surrounding the High Holidays has subsided, I looked at the calendar and realized that Thanksgiving is only 6 weeks away! This holiday, more than most, is traditionally a time when families gather and celebrate together. Last year, many of us decided not to travel due to the high incidence of Covid, especially since there were no vaccines available at that time.
This year, we are blessed to have vaccinations for those 12 and older as well as booster shots for some of us. The vaccines have proven to be effective in decreasing the risk of serious infection. We are not completely out of the woods yet but, for the moment, infection rates are decreasing. While some of you will travel to be with family, others will stay home.
Sunshine Meals will again provide a kosher Thanksgiving dinner free of charge to any of our members who request one. Last year, 28 meals were cooked with Love. They included turkey, stuffing, gravy, vegetables, rolls, and choice of apple or pumpkin pie. The meals were either picked up at the synagogue or delivered on Thanksgiving. Vegetarian options were offered as well. For those who would be dining alone, an additional meal was provided so that a friend or neighbor could be invited to join in.
If you would like to receive Thanksgiving dinner, please reply by Thursday, November 4th so that we order enough turkey and have all the ingredients for this very special meal.
To request a meal, please send an email to mdbannon@yahoo.com or phone me at 706-832-3048. Please include the number of meals you are requesting, your choice of pie (apple or pumpkin), and if you have any food allergies.
Shabbat Shalom!
