To my fellow congregants: For generations, giving tzedakah, or charity, has been a way to mark the Jewish holidays. We come to you once a year at this time, to ask for your financial support for our Annual Appeal. I’m sure you receive multiple donation requests, but I hope you will commit to help Bnai Israel.
During my high holiday speeches, I spoke of the foundation that Bnai Israel offers each of us. The most important thing about our synagogue is that it offers us a connection to our past, it fulfills a multitude of needs here in the present, and builds a future for our children. We reflected on the importance and value of such a home in our lives and how many different purposes it serves.
No matter how often you attend services or other synagogue events, whether you know most of the members, or hardly any, this congregation is here for you when you need us. Bnai Israel is here for your spiritual needs, for your children’s education and your education, for your pastoral needs, for you when you are sick, and yes, when you pass away.
Annual Appeal donations help support everything we do at Bnai Israel: educational programs, lifecycle events, holidays, social action, community-building, salaries and maintenance of our buildings and grounds. Your donation also ensures that no member of our congregation will be turned away for financial reasons.
As we have all been impacted by the rising cost of supplies and services, so has Bnai Israel. Our operating expenses have increased and membership dues cover only a portion of our expenses. Your gift will allow us to maintain and grow programs and activities and cover unexpected expenses.
Please be as generous as you can. I promise that your donation will be used wisely. Bnai Israel is 124 years old and we will be here for many generations to come. לדור ודור (L'dor V'dor)
