This appeal was given at Kol Nidre
As we gather here on this holiest evening of the year to hear the ancient chant of Kol Nidre, we are reminded of the weight and the beauty of our traditions. This is a time of introspection, the time to reflect on our actions, seek forgiveness, and strive to become the best versions of ourselves. It is also a time that emphasizes the strength and unity of our community.
Our synagogue has been a cornerstone of faith, learning, and togetherness for over 125 years. It’s here that we gather to celebrate, to mourn, and to mark the milestones of our lives. It’s within these walls that we teach our children the values of our ancestors, where we come to find solace and guidance, and where we forge bonds that last a lifetime.
Today, as we atone for our missteps and seek to write a new chapter, I ask you to consider how much this community means to you. The synagogue needs your support to continue being the vibrant, welcoming place it has always been. Your contributions help sustain our services, maintain our building, and support the programs that enrich our lives.
But this appeal is about more than just maintaining a building. It’s about investing in the future of our community. It’s about ensuring that our children and grandchildren have a place to come together, to learn, and to grow in their faith. It’s about making sure that no one in our community feels alone, especially during the most challenging times. It’s about welcoming the stranger and giving them a Jewish home.
I ask you to open your hearts and give generously. Every gift, large or small, is a testament to your commitment to our community and to the values we hold dear. Your generosity ensures that we can continue to offer the programs, services and support that make our synagogue a spiritual home for all who enter.
I’m sure that you noticed a difference in this year’s Appeal cards. It is intended to give you a visual to see how your donation can contribute towards the good of all, either for a one-time event, monthly costs or annual expenses. Whether it is paying for snacks, security, insurance and so forth, these are expenses that need to be paid. Your dues only account for 2/3rds of our annual budget, we rely on your donations to help us stay in the black.
Please give what you can. I don’t want you to give until it hurts, I want you to give until it feels good. As you pass your cards to the center aisle, I would like to thank everyone who came together to make this season meaningful, including Rabbi Bender, our Cantor Carl Samet along with the choir and accompanists, our Gabbais, security team and ushers.
May we all be inscribed and sealed for a good year, and may our community continue to thrive and grow stronger together.
Thank you,
